U.S. NAVY

(Defenselink -- April 25, 2003) Raytheon Co., Tucson, Ariz., is being awarded a $31,257,000 modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract (N00024-02-C-5415) to re-manufacture, overhaul and upgrade four Phalanx Close-In Weapon Systems to a current Block 1B surface mode configuration for the government of Egypt under the Foreign Military Sales Program. The MK-15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System is a fast reaction terminal defense against low and high flying, high speed maneuvering anti-ship missile threats that have penetrated all other ships' defenses. It is currently deployed in the U.S. Navy on 173 ships and in 20 foreign navies. Work will be performed in Louisville, Ky., and is expected to be completed by June 2006. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
