(Defenselink -- July 25, 2003) United Defense LP, Armament Systems Division, Minneapolis, Minn., is being awarded a $12,591,626 firm-fixed-price, award fee contract for FY 2003 U.S. Navy and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) requirements for the manufacture, assembly, test, and delivery of canisters, ancillary hardware, and associated support equipment for the MK41 Vertical Launching System (VLS). Canisters provide for safe storage, transportation, and loading of a variety of missile types into the VLS. This contract combines purchases for the Navy (79%) and the governments of Japan (9%); Netherlands (6%); and Canada (6%) under the FMS program. Work will be performed in Aberdeen, S.D., and is expected to be completed by September 2006. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00024-03-C-5443).
(Defenselink -- July 25, 2003) Raytheon Company, Tucson, Ariz., is being awarded a $7,303,300 firm-fixed-price modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-02-C-5415) for Block 1A upgrade and conversion performance enhancement equipment for one (1) Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) for the Taiwan Navy under the Foreign Military Sales Program. CIWS is a fast reaction terminal defense against low and high flying, high-speed maneuvering, anti-ship missile threats that have penetrated all other ships' defenses. Work will be performed in Louisville, Ky., and is expected to be completed by January 2005. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, D.C., is the contracting activity.
